Oregon Lawyer Chapter Hosts "A Dinner with Oregon Attorney General John Kroger"
On January 8, 2009, the Oregon Lawyer Chapter of the American Constitution Society hosted a dinner featuring Oregon Attorney General John Kroger, who gave a major policy address in advance of the 2009 Legislative Assembly. Approximately 100 ACS supporters, including over half a dozen judges, state legislators, and other elected officials, came to hear that address. In addition, Jim Hennings, the founder and longtime Executive Director of Metropolitan Public Defender, received the Justice Hans A. Linde Award. ACS Oregon bestows the award upon those who dedicate their lives to promoting the values of individual rights and liberties, genuine equality, access to justice, democracy and the rule of law in Oregon. Justice Linde espoused those ideals in his 13 years on the Oregon Supreme Court and many years teaching at Oregon law schools.

New Books on the Constitution
Keeping Faith with the Constitution is a new book published by ACS and authored by legal scholars Goodwin Liu, Pamela Karlan, and Christopher Schroeder. The authors present in accessible language a compelling and common-sense approach to constitutional interpretation - one that is faithful to the Constitution's words and principles and that explains why our founding document is the world's most enduring written constitution, able to address the changing needs and conditions of our society, just as the Framers intended. Keeping Faith also explores why concepts such as “originalism” and “strict construction” are inconsistent with the intent of the framers.
